The Clinic

«MITERA Children’s Hospital  Pediatric Weight Control Clinic» specializes in childhood obesity and eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia, etc.). The clinic is run by a pediatric endocrinologist, a clinical nutritionist and a child psychologist with special interest in eating behavior.

With long experience in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity and eating disorders, MITERA Children’s Hospital has created a multidisciplinary program, which focuses on ruling out possible organic causes of obesity as well as educating children on proper nutrition, exercise, and connection with the environment.

Children create, express themselves, become active and learn hands on, how to incorporate a healthy eating and exercise plan in their everyday lives.

The program caters for preschool and school-age children as well as adolescents, and includes activities for parents as well, so that they can become educated on issues regarding nutrition and exercise.
Psychological intervention is just as important and is based on the following goals:

  • Exploring the ability of  children and their families to actively participate in a team effort in order to change their eating habits.
  • Identifying wrong habits and behaviors in the context of safety – without judgment – and gradually replacing them with healthy eating and exercise habits.
  • Dealing with stressful factors, wherever possible.
