Press Release: Free-of-charge Prenatal Care to Underprivileged Woman from Syros. Nasos Chandakas Program

The Nasos Chandakas annual maternity program offers free-of-charge prenatal care and covers all hospital birth expenses. The program was created by HYGEIA Group scientific associate Stefanos Chandakas – obstetrician/endoscopic surgeon/gynecologist, former Obstetrics & Gynecology Registrar, Princess Royal University Hospital, London, and University of Athens Medical School Lecturer – in partnership with MITERA Hospital, a member of HYGEIA Group.

The initiative commenced a few years ago and it is dedicated to the memory of Mr Chandakas’ father, distinguished physician Nasos Chandakas from the island of Syros. The aim of the program is to offer assistance to underprivileged women who were born and live on Syros. Women are selected based on their tax return.

Interested parties may send their supporting documents by December 11, 2015 to: Ermoupoli Rotary Club, PO Box 42, 84100 Syros. The supporting documents include: recent family status certificate, latest copy of the E9 tax form, latest copy of tax return and contact phone numbers.

Prompted by this initiative, Mr Stefanos Chandakas noted, “Within 2016 and in the context of expanding the program, we aim to awaken the community of Syros, and raise social awareness and the spirit of solidarity. This program is the foundation for an innovative initiative, which will include a large number of free-of-charge births, in association with HYGEIA Group and the local community of Syros.”
