ΜΙΤΕRA: International Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation

December 6 & 7, 2018

MITERA Hospital, a member of HYGEIA Group, having a great sensitivity and social responsibility, is organizing an International Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation at the Acropolis Museum on December 6 & 7, 2018.

The Conference is co-hosted by the MITERA Hospital 1st Internal Medicine Clinic and the Athens Medical Association.

The aim of the Conference is to present the modern methods and optimum practices and their implementation towards an efficient system for organ donation and transplantations. The key feature of the Conference is a Panhellenic mobilization of experts in the field, as well as the representation of several European countries, such as Portugal, Croatia, Netherlands and Italy, that have developed successful transplantation programs.

The Conference is being held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity, the Hellenic Transplant Organization (EOM), the Panhellenic Medical Association and the Hellenic Transplantation Society.

According to the EOM, Greece is ranked last in Europe and among the last 10 countries in the western world, in the area of transplantations. Actually, in 2016 only 151 transplantations had been performed in the country, whereas in Belgium and Portugal, both European countries with similar populations to Greece, the respective numbers were 1,032 and 846.

Eleftheria Krikelis, Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee and Director of the MITERA Hospital 1st Internal Medicine Clinic, states “HYGEIA Group is quite aware of medical and social issues, such as organ donation and transplantation. The genuine support of this effort is proof for this Conference. I am hoping this Conference will act as a catalyst for presenting and promoting efficient methods that would help upgrade and improve the transplantation system in Greece, according to high international standards.”
