HYGEIA: Free-of-charge medical & diagnostic tests to the people of Kalavryta

“Travelling for Health” Program continues

HYGEIA Group offered free-of-charge medical exams to the people of Kalavryta and the surrounding areas. This is the fourth action of the “Traveling for Health” program, which forms part of HYGEIA Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

A team of 84 HYGEIA Group volunteers travelled to Kalavryta and performed 5000 free-of-charge medical and diagnostic tests on approximately 1500 residents. The team was made up of medical, nursing, technical and administrative staff.

The medical team included 31 physicians with 14 different specialties, and specifically 4 general physicians, 5 cardiologists, 3 surgeons, 2 ophthalmologists, 2 pediatricians, 1 dermatologist, 1 vascular surgeon, 2 gynecologists, 3 orthopedic specialists, 2 ENT physicians, 2 radiologists, 1 anesthesiologist, 2 urologists and 1 pulmonary physician. The tests were performed at the former Educational Center of Kalavryta.

The facilities had been set up accordingly with equipment that had be transferred by HYGEIA vehicles, while the Group commissioned buses to transfer the patients to and from the medical center.

The diagnostic tests included 600 blood tests (CBC and biochemical), 670 U/S, 160 Pap tests, 450 cardiograms, 320 heart pulsed-wave Doppler and 90 spirometry tests, while 50 minor surgeries were also performed. The physicians also treated 5 medical emergencies and 4 of the patients were transferred to a local public Hospital by HYGEIA ambulance, after being deemed necessary by the HYGEIA Group medical team.

Commenting on the initiative, HYGEIA Group’s CEO, Ms Areti Souvatzoglou, stated, “We are continuing to actively support our fellow citizens by offering healthcare services to people who cannot easily access medical services. We were rewarded by the enthusiasm, smiles and gratitude they so warmheartedly offered us, which encourages us to continue travelling for health.”
