Clinical Interests:

  • Investigation and management of all rheumatological conditions including: inflammatory conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathies), systemic connective tissue diseases (e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, vasculitis), degenerative arthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, metabolic bone diseases (particularly osteoporosis)

  • Rehabilitation for chronic rheumatic diseases and chronic pain syndromes

  • Lifestyle modification for chronic rheumatic diseases and associated comorbidities

  • Patient education and counselling on self-management resources

Special Interests:

  • Diagnosis, treatment and comorbidity of chronic inflammatory arthritis (special in-terest in cardiovascular and psychosocial comorbidity) – Systemic necrotising vascu-litis

 

Research Interest: 

  • Director of RA comorbidity research group – supervised >15 MD/PhD degrees; Convenor of BSR cardiovascular comorbidity special interest group – Member of EULAR task force for cardiovascular risk management in rheumatic diseases; Chief investigator of TRACE RA, the largest academically-led multicentre RA RCT in the world; Chief Investigator or Principal Investigator in multiple commercial and non-commercial clinical trials; 340 peer reviewed publications listed on PubMed; >11000 citations; current h factor 57; >£15M research grants
