Interventional Cardiology Department

Our Department of Cardiology runs a fully equipped and state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory.

The interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures regulalry performed include:

  • Left heart catheterization (coronary angiography / left ventriculography / aortography)
  • Right heart catheterization for hemodynamic assessment of the right cardiac chambers and pulmonary pressures
  • Percutaneous angioplasty (placement of coronary stents) in patients with stable coronary disease or acute coronary syndromes. The transradial access is used in most cases.
  • Treatment of complex coronary lesions
    • Left main percutaneous coronary interventions
    • Percutaneous coronary interventions in bifurcation lesions
    • Percutaneous coronary interventions in undilatable and heavily calcified lesions using rotational atherectomy (rotablation)
    • Percutaneous coronary interventions in coronary chronic total occlusions (CTOs)

In our catheterization laboratory, we apply the most advanced techniques and utilize sophisticated equipment for the accurate assessment of the underlying coronary disease and optimization of  stents implantation and deployment including:

  • Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) – Functional and physiological assessment of coronary artery stenoses, to precisely evaluate the need for stent placement using intravenous or intracoronary adenosine infusion.
  • Physiological assessment of coronary microcirculation in patients with angina and absence of significant epicardial coronary artery stenoses using various methods, such as the invasive measurement of Coronary Flow Reserve (CFR) and the Index of Microcirculatory Resistance (IMR)
  • Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
